Anyone can bake treats for their own dogs, but it’s a fact that very few dog owners do!  There’s quite a bit of care and attention required and nowadays people just don’t have the time.  This is how Chef Katie makes her Chunky Biscuit Bones.

The first task is to prepare the dough.  Pure olive oil is used instead of heavy saturated fats, carefully combined with flour and free-range egg to give a light, workable mixture.  The dough is set aside to rest while the other ingredients are prepared.

Meat, fish, vegetables, cheese and herbs are finely chopped or blended as required.  Other ingredients such as treacle, ginger or peanut butter are mixed straight into the rested dough.

When all of the flavoursome ingredients have been thoroughly mixed in to make sure there is an even distribution, the dough is kneaded well before  being rolled out.  Then the cutting begins.  Every single biscuit bone is cut out individually and weighed before being placed on a baking tray.  At this stage, plenty of flour is used to prevent sticking – to hands, cutters, scales – you name it!

The baking is timed to perfection, with the trays being turned regularly.  When ready, the little biscuit bones are cooled before going out into the world….

We have worked hard on a recipe to give the same crunchy consistency as the regular biscuit bones and we’re very pleased with the results.

Our website launch coincided with the 3 Counties show in June, where we met many lovely people who gave us their feedback and were very complimentary about the products.   We have taken on board many suggestions and plan to offer a new selection of improved treats that your pets will love even more.

We are still planning to introduce a wheat / gluten free range in the future.  In the meantime, we now have a much clearer picture of the treats and flavours that your pets enjoy the most, so will be introducing the new sizes and tastes very soon – watch this space!

Bewdley Pet Supplies, Bewdley.  Jason’s fabulous pet shop has recently opened, appropriately in Dog Lane, Bewdley!  He stocks a fantastic range of pet products and we are very pleased to have our treats included.

Kinver Edge Farm Shop & Maize Maze.  The Farm Shop in Sandy Lane, Kinver DY7 6NN has a sizeable cafe and Paul welcomes the many dog walkers that love the local area.  The Maize Maze opens on the 22nd of July this year and has always been a popular summer attraction.  The Pick-Your-Own season is under way with strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, currants, etc., from June through to September.  The Farm Shop stocks ready-picked fresh fruit, home-made, home grown and local produce including jams, chutneys, potatoes, vegetables and Kinver meat.  As if that wasn’t enough, there will be events held for Halloween and for Bonfire Night.  Call Paul on 07813 098602 for further information.

Belle is a beautiful Cocker Spaniel and it’s her birthday this week!

Her mum, Becky, sent us this lovely photo and told us that Belle really loved her Chicken Wuffin and savoured every crumb.

We hope Belle has a very special birthday and that she enjoys her Black Pudding Birthday Cake, complete with cream cheese filling.

“She is 5 years old now and was a rescue who was found in a local park.  We adopted her from the Rescue when she was about a year old.  She loves to eat, go for walkies and snuggle on the sofa.  When she’s not sunning herself out on the decking, she loves playing the Bitey, Growlie game with our younger dog Tess.  She’s not just a pretty face, she is very intelligent.”
